Fall Color with a Twist

Some beautiful fall color, with a bit of a twist, here in Silver Spring, Maryland.  As regular blog visitors will note, I'm on a bit of a kick with these sorts of motion shots.  I tried a new technique today by using a neutral density filter to keep from terribly overexposing the shot on a bright, sunny day.  Enjoy!

Clifton Inn Garden #2

Another photo from our recent trip to Charlottesville.  I was photographing some flowers in the garden at the Clifton Inn and I decided to play around a bit with some camera movement.  I like this one for the feeling of it being stained glass.  Enjoy!

A moment in the sun

On a very nice trip with my wonderful wife of 10 years, I was able to sneak away to shoot for part of an afternoon.  This is the first quick edit of one of the shots I took of the flower garden at Clifton Inn near Charlottesville.  Enjoy!

A bit out there...I know.

This is a shot I took back in July at the Botanical Garden.  I've been playing with different ways to move the camera during a somewhat longer exposure.  Clearly, the upper left of the frame is way over exposed, but I find this oddly compelling.  The photo is of a small field of flowers (see the middle right of the frame for some of the stems).

Thinking of Yosemite National Park

With all of the news about the rim fire in Yosemite National Park I thought of this photo I shot back in 2000.  If memory serves, I visited the area not too long after a series of fires just outside the park and I remember on the drive in that it was such a barren landscape...and then I was in the valley and WOW.  Such an amazingly beautiful place.  It is truly one of the most spectacular places on Earth.

Found Objects

I've been trying to organize some old files and came across this from a few years back.  I'll let you guess what these are, but I'll tell you that they were found behind an abandoned shed deep in the woods.

Hirshhorn Reflected

Sometimes it just takes moving a few feet to get a new perspective. In my prior reflection posts, I was shooting at one spot at the edge of the fountain inside the Hirshhorn.  This shot was taken by moving around the fountain to a new spot and getting the reflection of the windows above the fountain.  Other than cropping just a bit and adjusting the levels slightly, this is straight out of the camera.
