A little abstraction

Thought I would post something a little more abstract. I shot this a while back with a Lensbaby - it is a bellowed lens that allows you to shift the center of focus. It is a fun little lens that can create some interesting effects. If you look closely, you can see what this really is, but I won't give it away :)

Bass Harbor Light, Mount Desert Island

I had a fantastic time photographing this lighthouse in Maine. Unfortunately, I did not have the right filter to keep the sky from overexposing while capturing some of the details in the rocks, but thanks to Photoshop, I've been able to pull some of that detail out. The lighthouse itself, although still operational, is a private residence.

This is one of my favorite views of DC. If you visit the Iwo Jima memorial in Arlington, there is a large bell tower close by. From the lawn in front of the bell tower is this view. One day I'd like to shoot this view with a 400mm or larger lens (this was shot with a 300mm lens I believe, and on film no less!).

This was shot a while back, but I thought I would fill the blog a bit with some of my older work. There's a fantastic flower seller that comes to the 8th Street Farmers Market on Thursdays (downtown DC). I always try to pick up some poppies when she has them available.

Some dinghies tied up at the dock (Isleford, Maine). We took an afternoon trip on a lobster boat (only caught a few small ones that were quickly tossed back). Among the highlights of the trip was a stop at Isleford, Maine, a small island south of Mount Desert Island.

Thunder Hole, Acadia National Park

Trying a new blogging software to make it easier to get my photos out on the web (mostly, I've forgotten all the ins and outs of ftp and html)! This shot was taken on our vacation to Maine - Acadia National Park to be precise. It was a very sunny day at Thunder Hole and I captured this image while Nevan and Patty were playing around on some rocks nearby. More to come!
