Liquid blue

A while back I posted "Fall Reflection", which I took at the Hirshhorn in DC.  I went back there recently and took some photos of the same fountain pool, but then started playing with the colors.  I think what I need to do is shoot these with some more depth of field.  A work in progress.

Bass Harbor Lighthouse - WPA Poster Style

 

 

This is one of those photos that I don't think I got quite right when I shot it originally.  The lighting was really tough at that time of year for taking a photo of the lighthouse. (This is the Bass Harbor Light on Mt. Desert Island, Maine.)  I've always been a fan of the WPA posters of National Parks and I was inspired to make something similar with this shot.  

Softer petals

A few posts back I promised a different treatment of the petals.  I played around with some of the artistic brushes in Photoshop and settled on this image.  I may fiddle around with it some more.  Somehow flipping the image and softening it with a watercolor brush gives it a more abstract feel to me.  Would love to know what you think.

Out for a morning swim

 

This was taken on a recent morning near the Lincoln Memorial.  I generally am not a huge fan of sunrise/sunset shots with lots of glowing sky, but there's nothing quite like being at the Lincoln Memorial at sunrise.  The dawn of a new day from the steps of a place dedicated to a man who inspired a new day in America is truly one of the special things about DC.

Yes...I'm a bit of a blogging kick.  This was taken back in 2011 at the U.S. Botanical Garden.  I forget what kind of tree this is - some sort of cedar.  I was really struck by how bright organge the needles were.  Follow me on twitter @brundagephotos

A few petals

I was sorting through some old shots and came across this shot from 2010.  I think I'll spend some time playing with cropping it and try for something a little more abstract in the next posting.
